TextLanternStart with what you want to do
Start with the conversation you need to understand. If you only need to read a message or prepare your own reply, use personal translation. If members need translations throughout a channel, use server translation.

Personal or server translation?
Personal translation is for one person. You ask for a translation, and only you see the result and its controls. To reply, you review the translated text, copy it, and send it yourself.
Server translation is for a shared conversation. An administrator chooses which channels use TextLantern, which languages they use, and where translations appear.
For example, a community can choose English and Japanese as its two main languages. Once TextLantern recognizes a message as English, it translates it into Japanese, and vice versa. Channel settings determine whether other enabled languages are requested by readers or generated automatically.
