Getting started
How can I try TextLantern?
TextLantern is in private beta. Contact support@textlantern.com to ask about access. See getting started for the personal and server paths.
Translations and replies
Why is there no translation?
For a personal translation: check that the TextLantern action is available in the message menu. Follow these steps. If the action is missing, contact support about your access.
For a server translation: ask an administrator to check that translation is enabled, the channel uses the intended language settings, and the bot can reply in the selected location. Test a short message in one of the two main languages. See channel setup and the permission checklist.
Does TextLantern send my personal reply for me?
No. You check the translation, copy it, and send it yourself. See write a translated reply.
Permissions and access
Does the bot need Administrator?
No. TextLantern requests specific bot permissions. The person managing its server settings needs Manage Server. See the permission guide.
Why does TextLantern need Manage Threads?
It uses this permission to manage its translation threads. Discord can automatically add the original message author to a public thread created from their message. TextLantern can remove that automatically added member when needed. See thread permissions.
Why does TextLantern need Change Nickname?
It lets the bot use the display name chosen for this server. It does not let TextLantern change other members’ names or account details. See the permission checklist.
What if I removed a permission?
Restore the relevant server or channel permission, then retry the action. For thread replies, check Manage Threads too. Follow the channel permission checks.
Where should I check prices and usage limits?
Check the pricing information and the offer shown for your account before purchasing. Access to the website or a successful translation does not establish an unlimited free allowance. If a limit or balance message stops a request, keep that message for support; repeatedly changing channel permissions will not resolve an account limit.
What should I include when asking for help?
Describe the point where you got stuck: the action is missing, a request returns an error, or the translation is not in the place you expected. Include whether you are using personal or server translation, the chosen languages, the approximate time and timezone, and the error text with any personal information removed.
For a server issue, also note whether it affects one channel or several and whether replies should appear in the channel, a thread or a private result. A made-up example that reproduces the problem is more useful than a full chat history. Do not include passwords, access tokens or private conversations.
