Translate a Discord message or reply

Before you begin

You need access to TextLantern. If you do not have it yet, see getting started.

Read a message privately

1. Open the menu for the Discord message you want to understand. On desktop, right-click the message.
2. Open Apps, then choose the TextLantern translation action.
3. Read the private result. If you need another available language, choose it in the translation controls.

What you should see: the translated message and its controls are visible only to you. This does not add a shared translation to the conversation.

“Private” describes who can see this translation result. The original message keeps its existing visibility in Discord. If you copy the result into a channel, the people who can read that channel can see what you send.

Write a translated reply

1. Use /t and enter what you want to say.
2. Choose the language you want to write in. You can edit your wording before translating.
3. Translate the message and check the result. Names, jokes, and short phrases may need extra care.
4. Copy the translation and send it in the conversation yourself.

You stay in control: TextLantern does not send this personal reply for you.

Reading translations in a server

A server may already have automatic translation enabled. In that case, look beside the message or in its translation thread. The administrator chooses the languages and reply location.

If an extra language is enabled, use its language control to request a translation. Where that result appears depends on the channel settings.
